Week Three

Bok choy, cucumbers, radishes, leaf lettuce, tomato, radicchio.

I love the little pops of color--especially the rosy pink of the radishes!

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm happy that we got bok choy again. Gerry has been lapping up that ABC Slaw and has a few people at work interested in trying it as well. And as I am eating the very last of the cucumber from last week, I was hoping to see them again this time. When I first peeked in the bag and didn't see them, I was bummed, so I started patting down the bag on the drive home. I was thrilled when my hand finally closed around one of the cucumbers.

Now get your mind out of the gutter!

We were instructed to choose our tomatoes (one for a half share, two for a full share) carefully. I'm not sure what anyone else looked for, but I took the one with a tail!

Many thanks to Gerry and Susan for restarting the blog. I hope that memebers will take the time to participate. I will do my best to stay active.

Last Sunday we had my first dinner party of the season using as much of our weekly share as possible. Jean and I had two other couples as guests. We stretched the asparagus by using as much stem as possible. I cut the stalks in small pieces, put them is a baking pan, covered them with grated swiss cheese and sprinkled on some chile powder. Baked in oven and served hot. Yummy!

I cut up the asian greens, sauted them with garlic and white beans...added in some miso, Korean hot pepper paste(gochuchang) and soy sauce.

Cucumber salad with sliced onion, vinegar, salt, lemon juice, sugar and water.

Mixed geeens with diced tomatoes, red peppers with simple vinegar and oil dressing.

Roasted chicken stuffed with whole wheat bread and lots of chives and chive flowers.

Our friends brought lots of other stuff and we we had pinacoladas and white wine.

I guesss everyone had a good time...they stayed for 5 hours.

Regards,
Steve Leaventon

I think this will be too complicated for a lot of people.

Hey, Steve, thanks for commenting and including all your recipe ideas! Most of our stuff ended up as a salad this week--not too ambitious, but very delicious!

I'm wondering what might be too hard for a lot of people, commenting or cooking? ;-)

The security level is pretty intense and likely confusing to some people...I will try to work with it.

Steve, it wasn't meant to be intense! Blogger has been having problems with commenting. Was it giving you trouble with the security word? That's a known problem with Blogger right now. Others have told me it helps if you uncheck "Stay Signed In" when you sign onto Blogger. That's a pain in the rear, and shouldn't have to be that way, but I can't do much about it--that's up to Blogger! I took out the word verification and have everything as open as can be right now, so we'll see if that helps.
